Chapter Philanthropy

The Alpha Kappa Chapter of Phi Mu at the College of Charleston was the first chapter to work with the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals; we are honored that Phi Mu Nationals was inspired by our chapter's passion and chose the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals as our organization's national philanthropy.

The Children's Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina is our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. MUSC is located down the street from College of Charleston, which is especially great because we can see the impact of our philanthropy work in our very own community! Some of our active, yearly philanthropic efforts include:

Alpha Kappa's Oyster Roast for Parent's Weekend

Participating in CofC's Dance Marathon for CMNH

Every couple of years our chapter also chooses an additional philanthropy to support that has special significance to one of our members. A few years ago we sold carnations on Valentine's Day to support the Charleston Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We've also participated in food drives benefiting the Low Country Food Bank, organized a Cinderella's Closet Dress Drive with Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and volunteered at local nursing homes and soup kitchens. Many of our members also make time to volunteer with various causes outside of our sorority's philanthropic work!

In 2017, all of College of Charleston's Panhellenic Sororities joined forces and hosted the annual carnival to support Circle of Sisterhood; a non-profit that provides financial resources to entities around the world that strive to education women who face poverty and oppression.
